Market Systems Development

The Making Markets Work for the Poor (M4P) / market systems approach starts from a simple question: why does this market fail to serve smallholder farmers, and what would need to change to fix it permanently?

At Light Agro Skills, we use market systems analysis to identify the specific failures holding back smallholder producers in a given value chain, then work to address those failures, not by replacing the market, but by strengthening the systems within it.

We build buyer relationships, improve market information, strengthen aggregation, develop service provider capacity, and support enabling environments, so that markets keep working long after our programme ends.

Market Systems Interventions We Implement

What we deliver

  • Market systems analysis and value chain mapping
  • Buyer-seller linkage and contract facilitation
  • Aggregation centre management and coordination
  • Market information systems (price data, demand signals)

  • Financial service linkage (input credit, warehouse receipt finance)

  • Enabling environment advocacy with local government

Light Agro Skills builds market systems that connect smallholder farmers in Uganda to buyers, processors, and service providers.
