Climate Smart Agriculture
Erratic rainfall patterns, longer dry seasons, shifting planting calendars, and new pest and disease pressures are already affecting smallholder farmer productivity across Uganda. Farmers in our programmes consistently name unpredictable weather as one of their top production constraints.
Climate adaptation is not a future agenda for Ugandan smallholder farmers. It is a present need.
Ugandan farmers are living with climatic change
Our Climate Smart Agriculture approach rests on three core pillars: increasing productivity, enhancing resilience, and reducing emissions. We help farmers boost outputs under climate stress through improved seed varieties, soil health management, and integrated pest control. Simultaneously, we reduce household vulnerability to climate shocks by promoting conservation agriculture, water harvesting, agroforestry, and income diversification. Finally, we support national climate goals and farmer livelihoods by driving low-carbon farming practices and circular economy innovations like Black Soldier Fly (BSF) technology and biochar.
